See more. Assume less.

Useful guidance comes from knowing what an image can show — and what it cannot.

Start with the task.

Thermal Note is a UK-focused guide to thermal imaging and infrared temperature measurement. A house survey, a tiny component and a radiator spot check share physics, but require different equipment and interpretation.

We bring together professional guidance, manufacturers’ records and attributed reports from people who have used the equipment. Each guide includes its source trail and states the limits of the evidence.

Evidence has more than one level.

01

Professional guidance

Published material from organisations such as RICS and measurement bodies. The author’s conditions and scope still matter.

02

Manufacturer statement

Specifications and supported platforms reported by the maker. A statement is not an independent phone-level test.

03

External author’s test

An attributed observation with its date and setup. It is not an experiment performed by Thermal Note.

What we have not tested.

We have not yet collected original thermal camera measurements, phone compatibility tests or UK property surveys. Retail access and published specifications do not stand in for those records. An unknown result is left unknown.

Illustrative photographs are externally sourced, credited and separate from measurement evidence. A photograph of a British house is not proof of heat loss in that house.

Commercial relationships.

This project is associated with an operator of thermal imaging and infrared thermometer retail websites, including businesses selling FLIR, TOPDON and MiLESEEY equipment. Editorial conclusions on these pages are source-based; no product has been ranked using an undisclosed in-house test.

This site has no checkout or affiliate purchase links. Any future referral links, review samples or sponsorship must be labelled where they appear.

Scope, corrections and safety.

A cold patch does not prove damp. A hotspot does not prove an electrical fault. Guides cannot replace a competent professional’s investigation, and no content here asks you to expose energised mains equipment.

Source records used here were reviewed in September 2026. Platform support can change: confirm the precise variant, current app requirements and return terms before buying. Revisions should preserve both the correction and the condition that caused it.
